A Perfect Little Peanut

Molley is a peanut. I know to others she is normal size, maybe even big, but to us, she is a peanut. David was 9lbs 5oz, so we assumed that Molley would be similar in size. Imagine our surprise when she came out and they said she was 7lbs 6oz. Nearly 2 whole pounds lighter that her brother.

A comparison for you. David on his birthday

Molley on hers

At discharge she was down to 6lbs 12oz and borderline high with her billirubin levels. She was doing okay on wet diapers, but wasn't pooping. We scheduled her newborn visit with Dr. Rogers on her 1st full day home. She had gained an ounce, but still no poops. She said to keep up what we were doing, and suggested that we supplement some to help get things out. We did with David, so we started with Molley. She also wants me to go to a breastfeeding support group so we can see what Molley is getting when we breastfeed. I am hapy to report that with the supplementing, we have now had 3 poop diapers. She'll slowly start looking less yellow.

Life with a newborn takes some adjusting. Sleep is harder to come by and we have to get back in the routine of diaper changes and bottle cleaning. David has to get used to having a baby sister and that she's not ready to play with him just yet. She is adjusting to this crazy family she came into and, when she is awake, is looking around and taking it all in.

Depsite change and challenges, she is a perfect peanut. Who could resist falling in love with her?

A Changing Family

Tomorrow our whole world will change. We will no longer be a family of 3, and will forever become a family of 4. We will have one son and one daughter. Our family will be complete.

This pregnancy has been so different than my pregnancy with David. More worries, more appointments, 2 trips to L&D.  You can read about both pregnancies here. (You can even see belly shots posted no where else.)

I tried not to take any day of this pregnancy for granted. I was hot, I was more uncomfortable, and more tired, but I didn't want to complain about any of it. I felt like if I complained, it was like telling people I didn't like being pregnant, or that I was ungrateful for being pregnant. I love being pregnant. It took us a long time to get here! I love feeling flutters, and kicks and rolling around, even when those kicks are into my bladder. :) I might not have loved getting sick, but it was all for the greater good of being able to hold my baby in my arms tomorrow.

There are things that I'm not looking forward to. I'm not looking forward to the recovery restrictions. Recovery with David was very easy for me, but it was very hard to not do the things I was not supposed to do. This time around, that means no carrying David. I love when he "needs me" and wants to be carried and he puts his head on my shoulder and holds on like I am the only person in the world. 4 weeks of not doing that. I worry that David will feel ignored, or that he will feel like we love his baby sister more. What if I don't love her as much as I do David, or I don't bond with her as well as I have him?

Ready or not, tomorrow at 4pm our c-section will start. Nate and I cannot wait to introduce her to everyone! Everyone is ready to meet her, to know her name and to see who she will look like. David is excited to meet her, but may be disappointed to learn that her name is not Rocket.

Sprinkle for Baby Mott

A few weeks ago my sister and friend threw me a sprinkle for Baby Mott (okay, mom helped too). I love the idea of having a get together to celebrate baby. We celebrated David and I had secretly hoped someone would offer to have a party to celebrate our daughter. It wasn't about getting presents, it was just about feeling the love that is already there for our baby girl.

The decorations and food were amazing. Our friend, Nicole, made her cookies, which of course were amazing. Baby did get some wonderful surprises from friends and family. I look forward to trying to do what I did with David and take pictures of her using the things she received to send to the givers. They did a wonderful job. One day I will show all of these pictures to our baby girl to show her how loved she was before she even came into the world.

Yes, that is a chocolate fountain - yum-o!

Big Boy Room

It's been official for a while - David is getting a little sister (You can read all about it here.). With the new arrival comes the need to have a nursery and a big boy room.  I love our nursery and didn't want to change a thing, which meant David was getting a new room!

We talked about this for months - colors, themes, furniture. David wanted green walls and airplanes. We got him to change the wall color to blue, since planes fly in the blue sky, and he was okay with that.

We got to work so that David was moved in my the deadline of June 1st. We traded beds with my parents so he had a trundle bed and used the space the 2nd mattress would be as storage for clothes. Nate painted, added a shelve and rack in the closet and reassembled the bed for me. I moved stuff over and set it up how I wanted it. The last additions were the wall decals. He was so excited to see his new room. "WOW MOM" "This is my big boy room". He wants nothing to do with his old room. "That's for babies". Let's hope he still feels that way in July!

David picked the stickers for his door

In his bed for the first night. I think he likes it!
We did make our deadline, the post is just late. He's been in his big boy room for about a month now. Once we get the nursery back together, I'll post pictures of that.

Surprise Shower

Nate and I are youth advisers at church. A couple of times a month, we go and help out. It's fun, and we enjoy helping. People think that we do it because the youth can learn so much from us. In reality, it is us that learns from them, and we do it because they let us. They ask about our lives and things going on, many times before we can ask about theirs. I've known some of these kids since they were born, and it is so much fun to watch them grow up.

Anyway, at the end of May we had the last regular youth meeting for the summer. We were told it would be fun and games the whole time. We get to church and it's very quiet - too quiet for a place where a bunch of junior high and high school kids gather. We  thought maybe we had the time wrong, so we went to the youth room to wait. We walk in and here "SURPRISE!" as they all jump out. Our last youth event of the year was a surprise baby shower for our baby girl. I was ready to cry right there, but did manage to hold it together. :)

The youth with their parents made some yummy snacks for us all. Nancy planned some fun games for us, and there were gifts to be opened as well.

A friend made some beautiful cookies! I had no idea she was so talented. These were so good! (Indy people, check her out on Facebook - Sugar Rush by Nika)

The kids voted that we open gifts first. We got a beautiful lilac colored blanket, some burp clothes, and a cute hooded towel. We also received several gift cards that will be put to good use.

The games were a riot. I was laughing too hard to take pictures, but Nate got some. The first game was feed the baby. 3 brave youth sat in chairs with "bibs" on as their parents tried to feed them blindfolded. It was seriously the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. Apparently though, youth don't like baby food as much as babies do.

The second game was guess that baby food. I had figured out what was in each jar by color, but tried a little of each anyway. One of them even finished the jar of bananas - it did taste the best. Even Nate gave it a shot.

The last game was the dirty diaper game. Melted candy bars in baby diapers. Each team had to guess what the candy bar was. Watching kids "smell" diapers for fun was hilarious. We joked that we should have put a real one in there for fun.

We are so blessed to have a church family who cares about us, and youth who allow us to join them in fellowship. Our baby girl is so loved already!
