Big Boy Room

It's been official for a while - David is getting a little sister (You can read all about it here.). With the new arrival comes the need to have a nursery and a big boy room.  I love our nursery and didn't want to change a thing, which meant David was getting a new room!

We talked about this for months - colors, themes, furniture. David wanted green walls and airplanes. We got him to change the wall color to blue, since planes fly in the blue sky, and he was okay with that.

We got to work so that David was moved in my the deadline of June 1st. We traded beds with my parents so he had a trundle bed and used the space the 2nd mattress would be as storage for clothes. Nate painted, added a shelve and rack in the closet and reassembled the bed for me. I moved stuff over and set it up how I wanted it. The last additions were the wall decals. He was so excited to see his new room. "WOW MOM" "This is my big boy room". He wants nothing to do with his old room. "That's for babies". Let's hope he still feels that way in July!

David picked the stickers for his door

In his bed for the first night. I think he likes it!
We did make our deadline, the post is just late. He's been in his big boy room for about a month now. Once we get the nursery back together, I'll post pictures of that.

Happy Father's Day!!

David loves his daddy. I mean, he loves his mommy, but photographic evidence shows that he loves daddy. We don't have any evidence of the sorts for mommy, if you remember this post.

Nate is a great daddy! David looks forward to him coming home every night, and helping daddy do work. He cuddles with daddy (sometimes) and loves to wrestle with him. He is his father's son!

Happy Father's Day Daddy! Love, David

Surprise Shower

Nate and I are youth advisers at church. A couple of times a month, we go and help out. It's fun, and we enjoy helping. People think that we do it because the youth can learn so much from us. In reality, it is us that learns from them, and we do it because they let us. They ask about our lives and things going on, many times before we can ask about theirs. I've known some of these kids since they were born, and it is so much fun to watch them grow up.

Anyway, at the end of May we had the last regular youth meeting for the summer. We were told it would be fun and games the whole time. We get to church and it's very quiet - too quiet for a place where a bunch of junior high and high school kids gather. We  thought maybe we had the time wrong, so we went to the youth room to wait. We walk in and here "SURPRISE!" as they all jump out. Our last youth event of the year was a surprise baby shower for our baby girl. I was ready to cry right there, but did manage to hold it together. :)

The youth with their parents made some yummy snacks for us all. Nancy planned some fun games for us, and there were gifts to be opened as well.

A friend made some beautiful cookies! I had no idea she was so talented. These were so good! (Indy people, check her out on Facebook - Sugar Rush by Nika)

The kids voted that we open gifts first. We got a beautiful lilac colored blanket, some burp clothes, and a cute hooded towel. We also received several gift cards that will be put to good use.

The games were a riot. I was laughing too hard to take pictures, but Nate got some. The first game was feed the baby. 3 brave youth sat in chairs with "bibs" on as their parents tried to feed them blindfolded. It was seriously the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. Apparently though, youth don't like baby food as much as babies do.

The second game was guess that baby food. I had figured out what was in each jar by color, but tried a little of each anyway. One of them even finished the jar of bananas - it did taste the best. Even Nate gave it a shot.

The last game was the dirty diaper game. Melted candy bars in baby diapers. Each team had to guess what the candy bar was. Watching kids "smell" diapers for fun was hilarious. We joked that we should have put a real one in there for fun.

We are so blessed to have a church family who cares about us, and youth who allow us to join them in fellowship. Our baby girl is so loved already!

We've Got a Mission

In case you missed it, my baby is 3.

We celebrated as a family on his birthday and gave him his present; a big boy bike! He was so excited.

That night, we had cake at my moms house. David also loves cake!

Maybe not so much Unlce Adam sneaking in for a picture. David wanted his cake!!

Last weekend we celebrated David's birthday with his fiends. He choose to have a rocket party, aka Little Einstein's. I had grand ideas for this party - themed food and tons of decorations. Turns out, very few places make decorations for Little Einsteins anymore, and themed food was more complicated than I thought. Nate reminded me that at the end of the day, it's a party for 3 year olds and it doesn't matter if everything is perfect. The only thing that matters is making a special day for David. He was right.

The entire morning David was with my mom and told everyone that it was his party day. People sang to him, gave him balloons, someone at the farmers market even gave him an apple. He was a happy little boy.

By party time, he was so ready to play with his friends. He hugged his friends when they arrived and made sure they knew it was his party. The blew bubbles, threw balls, went down slides, and ran around. It was fun to watch them all play together, decently well.

David did great opening presents. He gave a hug or high fived everyone after opening his present from them. So cute! I think he was most excited about having his friends sing to him and blow out candles. We did that twice since 1 kiddo was in the bathroom when we did it the first time and I didn't know it.

It was a fun day, and David definitely had a special day. Photo bomb shall now commence.
